I'm here to guide you how to crack this hard rock and get a good job for both freshers and experienced guys.

And at the end of this article, I will give you 3 bonus tips to tackle the interview even if you don't have the proper answer.

Apart from all preparation for "tell me about yourself", you should know one thing.

What answer the interviewer wants from you?

You might have thought that why all the interviewers asking this same question again and again. Because they want to know 2 points about you.

  1. What is most important to you?
  2. Are you fit for this job or not?

Yes. The answer you have given should cover these to questions also.

You shouldn't say like

  • I love movies
  • I love traveling

If you are saying like this they would have thought that you prefer movies or travel than this job. So don't do like this.

Before answering for that question you should know 5 most important point. If you cover these 5 points then the interview would be impressed and yeah! you would get the job.

1. Greetings

This is the first and foremost impression you can give them. So greet them with a good smile on your face 😃

For Example:

  • Good morning. First of all thank you so much for giving me this opportunity to introduce myself.

2. About you and your qualifications

In this section you need not to tell about your life story. Be precise and to the point.

I will give you one golden point which is make use of more adjectives while describe about you.

For example:

  • Hi.. I am John. I'm an innovative software engineer with 2 years of experience managing all aspects of the development process.

If you are a fresher you can say like this

  • Hi... I'm James. I'm an hard working engineering graduate specialized in computer science engineering with overall CGPA of 8.5 .....

3. Your achievements

This is very important to make the interviewer to believe your achievements. For that you can make use of more numbers.

For example:

  • I personally managed 5+ teams of projects and everything went very smoothly in terms of deadline, goals and etc., Throughout my career, I've noticed that I've always been good at team management.

If you are a fresher then,

  • Along with my degree, I've put my hands on java, dot net as well. While practicing other technologies, I've noticed that I've always been good at data handling.

4. Why are you fit for this particular job?

See there are many job opportunities in this world. But the interviewer wants to know why are you fit for this particular job. You may be fit for many other jobs but why this job in particular. And don't forget this is the last section where you should conclude your answer and impress the interviewer as well.

For Example:

  • Now I feel that I'm ready for a more challenging assignments and I'm really excited to work on it.

Or

  • I think now I'm ready to out my hands on real time projects and I'm really excited to do that.

5. End your answer

Just to keep this section simple, say like this

For Example:

  • That's all about me.... Thank you.... 😀

We have covered all the 5 points and that's all....

Yes yes yes I remembered that I've promised you to give bonus tips. Okay just dive into the tips...

Tip #1 : Mannerisms

Interviewer would watch this kinda stuffs first. So be confident and sit comfortable then start to answer

Tip #2 : Eye Contact

The interviewer will not be impressed if your eye contact is not proper even you answer correctly. So eye contact is very important when it comes to answer in front of someone.

Tip #3 : Expression

You should know when you rise your voice and when you low your voice. And give some expression which tells how you passionate on this job.

See... Maximum time allocated to answer tell me about yourself question is 90 seconds. So don't soak your interviewer into boredom and don't tell your life story to them. They don't want that unnecessary stuffs at all. Be precise and to the point. They would definitely get impressed and offer you the job.
